Murphy’s Hat Revelation

One Sunday morning, Murphy showed up at church, and the priest nearly tripped over his robes in surprise. Murphy had never set foot in church before!

After Mass, the priest caught up with him at the door and said, “Murphy, it’s a miracle to see ya here today! What brought ya to Mass?”

Murphy scratched his head and replied, “Well, Father, I’ll be honest. A while back, I misplaced me favorite hat. It’s me pride and joy, and I was desperate to find it. Then I remembered that McGlynn has a hat exactly like mine, and I knew he never misses a Sunday service.”

The priest raised an eyebrow. “Go on.”

“Well, I figured McGlynn would take off his hat during Mass and leave it at the back of the church. My plan was simple: stay for a bit, then slip out after Communion and take McGlynn’s hat for meself.”

The priest chuckled and said, “But I noticed you didn’t take the hat. What changed your mind, Murphy?”

Murphy grinned sheepishly. “Ah, Father, it was your sermon on the Ten Commandments.”

The priest beamed with pride, his voice filled with joy. “Praise the Lord! Was it when I spoke about ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’? Did you realize it’d be better to leave without a hat than sin against God?”

Murphy shook his head and smirked. “Not exactly, Father. It was when you started talking about ‘Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery.’ That’s when I remembered where I left me hat!”
